New Delhi: Argentina, the Netherlands and Australia won their matches to top the standings at the women's field hockey Champions Trophy in Buenos Aires. The three teams registered their second consecutive victories in the competition.
The second day at the Champions Trophy saw reigning world champions the Netherlands overcome Japan comfortably. The Dutch took the lead in the 28th minute from a penalty corner.
Kim Lammers added a second on the stroke of half-time, the Netherlands 2-0 up.
Japan struggled to contain their opponents in the second half as well. A reverse shot from Fatima de Melo in the 47th minute sealed a 3-0 win for the Dutch.
Australia came back from being 0-1 down in the first half to beat defending champions Germany. The Aussies stuck back immediately after the break with a goal from Madonna Blyth in the 39th minute.
Rebecca Sanders scored the winner from a penalty corner in the 65th minute to give Australia their second win of the tournament.
The final match saw Argentina take on Spain. The hosts went ahead in the fifth minute with a goal from Daniela Maloberti.
They fired in two more goals before half-time to take a 3-0 lead.
Spain came back in the 47th minute when Esther Termans converted a penalty corner.
But in the 57th minute, Argentina struck back with a penalty corner to seal a 4-1 win.
