NIA Team Reaches Bhopal to Probe SIMI Jail Break
The orders pertaining to the new appointment of the Indore jailer Dinesh Nargawe at Bhopal Central Jail were issued late on Monday night.

Bhopal: Members of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) reached the state capital on Tuesday to probe the sensational breakout of SIMI operatives from the Bhopal central jail.

The NIA team is expected to take over the investigations after Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan requested Centre for a detailed probe over the Monday incident.

Bhopal central jail often dubbed as one of the most secured jails in India, had exposed glaring gaps in security arrangements with only 40 prison guards being present on Monday night when the daring escape happened. The prison has in all 70 night guards.

The wires of the CCTV cameras were also found snapped and four STF jawans deputed in security were asleep when the jailbreak took place, said an ex-officer from the jail.

The Armed night patrolling that started in March 2016 was scrapped too a few days ago as jail officers disallowed taking of firearms inside the jail complex, a police officer said.

Meanwhile, state Home Minister Bhupendra Singh has clarified that the NIA will probe how the SIMI operatives escaped but there is no need for any further investigation into the encounter.

The state government had removed ADG Jail Susovan Banerjee and replaced him with Sudhir Shahi, the former RAW officer who led the infamous Vyapam probe as Special Task Force chief before the CBI took over the investigations.

The orders pertaining to the new appointment of the Indore jailer Dinesh Nargawe at Bhopal Central Jail were issued late on Monday night.

In the wake of the sensational jailbreak by SIMI operatives on Monday, the jail department called off Bhai Dooj festivities scheduled at the jail on Tuesday.
