THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: There is no factionalism in the state unit of the Communist Party of India (CPI), said party general secretary S Sudhakar Reddy. He was addressing a meet the press organised by theThiruvananthapuram Press Club on Tuesday. This was his first visit to the state after taking over the reins of the party.“There will be differences of opinion when there is more than one leader with the same stature for a post. That should not be read as factionalism,” he said, while denying the media reports on the selection of the state secretary on Monday.“According to him, the end result is more important and not discussions. “It is quite natural that some might be having a louder voice than the others and it would reflect in discussions,” he said, justifying the verbal duel overheard by mediapersons who were waiting outside the Communist Party of India headquarters on Monday night. “We had discussions in a true democratic manner,” he said. Sudhakar Reddy refuted media reports that his party had rejected the majority proposal in the State Council for the secretaryship. “Whatever appears in the media may not be the reality,” he said.He felt that choosing an Indian path for socialism, the new thought mooted by the CPM, is the need of the  hour as nothing can be copied from anywhere.“While choosing a model, we have to consider the historic background and peculiarity of that area,” he said.Reddy hinted at the formation of the state and district-level coordination committees on the model of the Left Democratic Front and the Left Front in all the states for better role by the Left parties in a non-Congress/ non-BJP alternative.Senior party leader Benoy Viswam was also present on the occasion.
