What happened in Kishtwar? Why did it esclate? And how can we ensure that such incidents do not recur? CNN-IBN's Srinagar bureau chief Mufti Islah joined IBNLive readers for an interaction on the issue.
Q. The LoC and Kishtwar incidents have any links? Asked by: sundar1950in
A. None. The LoC tension is because of Pakistani troops firing on indian soldiers position on this side. Kishtwar is an internal problem that erupted because govt of the day did not act in time to intelligence inputs that suggested tension between two communities was simmering.
Q. How long the common man in J and K would suffer due to govt's inability to rein in the terrorism? Asked by: Shyam Vadalker
A. He will unless the last gun falls silent and a dialogue to pave way for a lasting Kashmir solution is found. every party should roll its head and find one.
Q. Was the prevention of politicians visit a wise step? Asked by: sundar1950in
A. It was because the problem with politicians in the sub-continent is that they rake emotions. The J-K govt would not have afforded that at this crucial juncture. Mehbooba Mufti and Arun Jaitly were barred to visit because they could have stirred up emotions.
Q. Has the state government handled in a manner which could contain the violence? Asked by: sundar1950in
A. Think they were late on day 1 when maximum damage took place. had they been prompt, this incident would not have flared up and spiraled to other areas in Jammu.
Q. Allegations of involvement of terrorists is having any basis? Asked by: sundar1950in
A. To my knowledge there has been no connection between militants and communal clashes in Kishtwar. The incident happened on a spur of moment but I am sure miscreants would have well planned it.
Q. Was the violence creation of miscreants? Asked by: sundar1950in
A. Yes, but how it spiralled out is a mystery. where there hands that fanned it? a judicial probe ordered by J-K govt would unravel that hopefully
Q. Is it ever possible to punish guilty in communal violence related incidents? Asked by: sriman
A. No experience tells us that is tough. Kishtwar saw communal clashes in 2008 in which two persons were killed but even on this date no one has been punished. Governments tend to get non-serious because a huge mob is involved and the miscreants who start this often escape.
Q. Why should the mob going to Idgah for prayers has to chant anti-India and pro-Pakistan slogans in first place? Is it not the sheer provocation to incite violence? Asked by: Raghu Vannekala
A. Any one living in J-K would know it happens every Friday or on a bigger congregation but the government should have been prevented it as they always do in Kashmir.
Q. As we get initial leads that the current crisis was instigated by some local elected chaps why cant we take stringent action against them if proven? Asked by: SURESH
A. Yes, locals first and later miscreants taking advantage.
Q. What happened in kistwar, why did it happened and what is the position right now? Why is it so sensitive that the opposion leaders are not allowed to visit the effected areas? Asked by: LALIT SHARMA
A. It happened when people were going for Eid prayers and a group was raising anti-national slogans. they were pelted with stones and things later took an ugly turn when massive rioting and violence started. things are tense now and under control. heavy deployment of army and police is ensuring things remain calm.
Q. What happened and who is responsible? Asked by: Deepak Pandit
A. A judicial probe ordered by government will find out details.
Q. What is the actual issue in Kishtwar and why did it go out of hand? Asked by: Manesh
A. Kishtwar has remained communally tense. A spark is needed to ignite passions and violence.
