Notice on Central forces at Mullaiperiyar

MADURAI: The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Monday issued directions to the State and the Central government to take notice of a Public Interest Litigation filed by Tamil Nadu PWD Senior Engineer’s Association seeking deputation of CRPF and CISF personnel at the Mullaiperiyar site. Originally, R V S Vijayakumar, State Vice President of the engineer’s association claimed that there was a threat for the lives of Public Works Department  engineers posted at Mullaiperiyar dam and the lives of Sabarimala devotees due to the recent unrest. B Stalin, counsel for the petitioner, contended that there should be an interim order to direct the State government to give adequate protection for the PWD engineers and the Sabarimala devotees.However, Special Government Pleader K Mahendran assured that the public and pilgrims inside Tamil Nadu and the PWD engineers at the dam site will be protected.
