CHENNAI: Metropolitan Transport Corporation on Wednesday introduced four new mini air-conditioned coaches connecting the Meenambakkam airport and different parts of the city. As per a press release, the swanky coaches are operated on two different routes from the airport. Two buses would be plying to Egmore railway station via Guindy, Anna University, Adyar, Alwarpet Flyover, Cathedral Road and the other two are operated for Anna Nagar West via Guindy, Kathipara Junction, Ashok Pillar and CMBT.The fare for Egmore has been fixed at Rs 150, while passengers proceeding for Anna Nagar are charged Rs 100. The coaches are operated between 6am and 11.45 pm from the airport.A Much Cheaper OptionThere will be 12 trips per day on the Egmore-Tirusulam run while the shorter Anna Nagar run will accommodate 16 trips. The buses can be boarded at a special corridor between the domestic and international arrival gates at the airport. This is expected to be a cheaper and more cost-effective mode of transportation for air-passengers, when compared to pre-paid taxis and autos. Earlier, the MTC had attempted a similar service, but the fact that passengers has to walk all the way to GST road, outside the airport rendered it ineffective. The fare is fixed, irrespective of which stop the passenger alights at.
