Within an hour, acclaimed artist Thotta Tharani, with a few strokes of his brush, made a village belle, dressed in a pink sari and carrying a pot of water, appear in a deserted hamlet. That was just a sample. The master craftsman’s artworks, that capture beautifully the drama of all the activities that happen in the pink city, have now been put on display at the art exhibition, ‘Heroic Past and Contemporary Present’. The event was organised by the NIFI Foundation, a CSR initiative of UNIFI Capital, in collaboration with Vinnyasa Premier Art Gallery. The 15-day exhibition was inaugurated by Thotta Tharani. Art connoisseurs also had a chance to preview the paintings of 45 artists, both established and upcoming. Adding a little flavour to the event, the live painting of Thotta Tharani was subsequently auctioned on the spot. The proceeds of auction were donated to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of India. Classic art pieces, including M F Hussain’s ink on paper, Shymal Dutta’s water-colour paintings, Dharmanaryanan’s mixed media on paper and many more were on display. Sarath K Reddy, MD, UNIFI Capital, said, “This is an art exhibition with a difference. We had invited Thotta Tharani to paint live for the art-lovers and auctioned the painting for a good cause. This kind of social cause patronises art lovers in India.”The exhibition is on till October 30 at Vinnyasa Premier Art Gallery. For details, call 24982515[email protected]
