New Delhi: The CPI-M on Tuesday accused the BJP of supporting communalists in Orissa, saying this had emboldened these elements to launch violent attacks against minorities in the state.
In a statement, the party Politburo also condemned the killing of a VHP leader allegedly by Maoists and said while the murder should be condemned and the guilty punished, "it is shocking the Sangh Parivar should use this as an opportunity to further its violent agenda of attacking the minority community."
The major Left party said the communalists "have been emboldened because of the support being extended by the BJP, a coalition partner in the Orissa government."
Describing the burning to death of a young woman looking after the children at the orphanage in Phutpali area as "inhuman", the CPI-M said the attacks were a "reflection of the fascistic mindset of these organisations that they could
attack a place housing innocent unprotected children."
It demanded immediate action by the state government to stop the attacks, arrest those responsible and ensure protection of the Christian community in the state.
