Orkut trouble for young Delhi girl
Orkut mischief-makers have posted a profile of a Delhi girl on the web page, describing her as a 'sex teacher'.

New Delhi: Even before the storm over the alleged defaming of a Delhi airhostess on Orkut has died down, a Delhi teenage girl has fallen victim to the Orkut mischief-makers, who have posted a profile on the web page, describing her as a 'sex teacher'.

The girl's profile also has obscene photographs and contact details such as her home address and telephone numbers. The matter came to fore after the girl's family started receiving vulgar calls and her father approached the Cyber Cell of Delhi Police's Economic Offences Wing.

Delhi police sources have described the girl to be a young student in a South Delhi school. Her father told the police that somebody has misused the social networking website to fake her profile and circulate obscene stuff on her profile.

According to the complaint, the teenager's family received the first call almost a month back where the caller wanted to speak to her. Similar calls poured in later, the police said, adding that all the callers referred to Orkut.

According to the girl’s father, his family has a harrowing time a fortnight back when two strangers knocked at their door and told them the girl had invited them for sex through Internet, they added. The Delhi police has said registered a case and launched investigations into the matter.

Earlier, a Delhi court had ordered the Delhi police to launch an investigation into the site over a complaint by an airhostess whose obscene profile was allegedly posted on the site by some unidentified net-user.

In a complaint filed in a Delhi court, the Delhi-based airhostess alleged that someone opened an account in her name wherein she is being described as a 'sex-struck woman'. She said the phone numbers given in the account belongs to one of her neighbours, an official at the Lok Sabha Secretariat, who has been receiving vulgar calls for sometime now.

A case was registered after the court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Delhi, Kamini Lau, directed the DCP (Economic Offence Wing Cell) to conduct investigations through its specialised cell into the allegations. The police had been told to file a report by February 9.

Orkut is an online community that connects people through a network of trusted friends. The site has been in the midst of several controversies of late. Recently, there was a demand to ban the social networking site for hosting an anti-Shivaji web community.

In her plea, the airhostess claims the act has lowered her image and reputation in the eyes of her family members and neighbours. She also said that she had written to the National Commission for Women and the Information and Broadcasting Ministry against her criminal defamation, but no action has been taken so far.

The 23-year-old airhostess says it was a rude shock for her when she discovered her profile on Orkut, complete with a photograph in her uniform. The person who put her on Orkut also made her a member of online communities soliciting sex. The profile was also connected to communities of airhostesses, both national and international airlines, and multi-national companies in order to make sure that her friends and colleagues notice her.
