KANNUR: CPM district secretary P Jayarajan visited the Kannur Central Prison on Wednesday also, even as his visit on Tuesday kicked up a controversy in the wake of the reports that he had met some of his party workers in the jail too during the visit. P Jayarajan was accompanied by his party colleagues K K Ragesh and O V Narayanan.According to the jail authorities, the CPM leaders came to the jail to see the workers of Adivasi Kshema Samithy (AKS), the pro-CPM outfit of tribals, arrested and brought to the jail here on Tuesday night in connection with the agitation for land held in Wayanad. As many as 55 workers of AKS were brought to the jail on Tuesday night in addition to another batch of 88 workers housed in the jail on Monday. It was in the wake of complaints that AKS workers housed in the jail weren’t being provided the basic facilities of prisoners that the CPM leaders visited the jail. The CPM leaders spent about 30 minutes in the jail on Wednesday talking to the adivasi prisoners. Briefing mediapersons on the arrangements being made for a seminar on ‘Influence of Globalisation on Judiciary’ planned to be held by the Lawyers Union here, Jayarajan alleged that those taken into custody by the police were not getting opportunities to prove their innocence.
