New Delhi: Leaders of Pakistan's ruling coalition held inconclusive talks on Monday to finalise strategy for the restoration of judges dismissed by President Pervez Musharraf when he imposed emergency rule last year.
However, Asif Zardari and Nawaz Sharif are reportedly unable to resolve their differences over the restoration of the judges.
The Pakistan’s People’s Party and Pakistan Muslim League-N were unable to find common ground in the round of discussions held in Islamabad on Monday.
“I believe that very soon the resolution is going to come to the parliament. We have already said that we will stick to the Muree declaration, in which PML N and PPP have already committed to the restoration of the judges,” says Nawaz Sharif.
Sources say Sharif is unhappy with the formula put forward by Zardari's law minister that is restoration of the judges but not Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhary.
Sharif was apparently firm that all the judges including Chaudhary must be reinstated. There were also differences over the tenure of the chief justice.
Another round of talks on the issue is expected in the next day or two.
