Poonch: Pakistan has halted the Poonch-Rawalkot bus service for three days following incidents of firing at the India-Pakistan border. This comes as there were reports of more firing from the Pakistan side across the Line of Control in Poonch.
India said the Pakistani Army has violated ceasefire along the line of control for the third day in a row. There are reports of overnight firing from the Pakistan side in the Poonch sector. Firing has been reported from more than three places along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir. India has said the firing is unprovoked.
Earlier on Thursday too, India claimed that Pakistan opened unprovoked firing in Poonch and Mendhar. The exchange in Poonch lasted for almost 2 hours.
Pakistan said it lost one soldier in the exchange of fire, while claiming that the provocation took place from Indian side which was rejected by Army Headquarters in Delhi. The Pakistani troops' firing started in the Battal area in Poonch sector at 1630 hours after which Indian troops gave a measured response. The firing ceased at 1810 hours, Army headquarters said.
Meanwhile, trade at the Chakan-Da-Bagh post in Poonch was halted for the second day. A long queue of trucks was lined up at the Indian side of the Line of Control. Top government sources say that there is likelihood that trade will resume from Monday. Trade on the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad route is still on.
