KOCHI: With all long distance private and KSRTC buses plying through the mobility hub, passengers complain that catching a bus from the Vyttila Mobility Hub in the evenings is causing them nightmares. The hub in spite of all other facilities is yet to have a lighting system in the exit area. It is difficult for those who utilise the hub in the late hours, especially women, as there are no services from the hub after 8 pm. T J George who runs a Milma shop near the hub said, “A few people walk through the dark passage after 8 pm thinking that the buses would still be available even when we tell them there are no more buses plying. This is a major problem,” he said.A police constable on duty said, “After 7 pm, the area is deserted and people usually hesitate to use the buses from the hub. We tell them to stand at the mouth of the exit. A KSRTC official said, “When the decision to ply more buses into the mobility hub was taken, the authorities should have first thought of setting up lights in the area." "The passengers are already suffering because they still have no idea about the buses plying from the hub,” he said. The main reason why people fear to walk through the exit area of the hub is that the bay is at least a few 100 metres away from the main hub and the open space in between is a threat to their security.M Beena, Managing Director of the hub, said, “We have been notified about the problem. There are a few financial constraints as we have to draw electric lines in an area which has no electricity supply. If all goes well, the people will soon be provided with the light in the area soon. But George said, “For the time being, we are only asking for a few small bulbs that can help light the way of the commuters.”
