BERHAMPUR/ASKA: The Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Janardan Sharma requested the people residing near Pakidi Peacock Reserve to use bio-fertilisers. He was here on Sunday to take stock of the situation following the death of 13 peacocks.Sharma was accompanied by Chief Conservator S S Srivastava, Regional Chief Conservator J P Singh and Ghumusar (South) Divisional. After visiting Pakidi hill, Sharma addressed the residents of Kerikerijhola, Ambuabadi and Sobhachandrapur villages at the Kali temple in Ambuabadi village. He said that the water body near Pakidi hill will be renovated and trees planted to provide enough food to the peacocks. Besides spreading awareness among the people, guards have been deployed in the foothill of Pakidi, he added.The guards have been directed to keep a watch on peacocks and treat them if found ill. While the forest officials blamed the deaths on pesticides sprayed on cotton crop, agriculture and cotton experts claimed the pesticides are not dangerous. On the other hand, with tests in Bhubaneswar remaining inconclusive, the carcasses may be sent to Indian Veterinary Research Institute at Izatnagar in Uttar Pradesh to ascertain the cause of the death, said Aska veterinary officer Prabhat Kumar Parida.
