BANGALORE: At a time when people bribe to get government jobs, here is Pushpa TN, who despite being appointed as an Assistant Horticulture Officer (AHO), has chosen to resign the job and take up agriculture.Hailing from an agricultural family in Shidlaghatta, Chikkabalapur, Pushpa a Post Graduate (Horticulture), from University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS) GKVK, was offered the post of AHO in 2009.Speaking to Express, Pushpa said, “When I completed the course, National Horticulture Mission (NHM) had just stepped in and lot of recruitment were happening, in that lot I was lucky and was appointed.But this was not the kind of job I was looking for.I wanted to be in the farming field since my school days.” Ever since her childhood, Pushpa was involved in agriculture.“My father owns about six acres of cultivation land where maximum land for used banana plants.” Pushpa has three younger sisters who are studying.“During my course of study I analysed, checked various possibilities and also consulted Eshwarappa from Hiriyur, Chitradurga.Having gathering all information I took up pomegranate cultivation in three acres, of the six acres of land owned by my father” she added.“I started planting pomegranate in 2009 and the plants have fruited about 12 tons of pomegranate this year,” she said.
