PATHANAMTHITTA: Devaswom and Transport Minister V S Sivakumar has asked the Travancore Devaswom Board to complete preparations for the forthcoming pilgrimage season before November 1. Reviewing the preparations underway for the coming pilgrimage season after visiting Sabarimala, Pampa and Nilackal on Saturday, Sivakumar said that the maintenance work of the aravana plant was nearing completion.The Minister told the Devaswom authorities to take steps to manufacture aravana well in advance so that 20 lakh containers would be available as opening stock when the Ayyappa temple opens for pilgrimage season on November 16. For uninterrupted supply of aravana ‘prasadam’ to the pilgrims, the authorities should maintain adequate stock of containers and slip-lids, he said.Sivakumar said that the work on the Bailey bridge, including the approach road, would be completed before the month-end. He said that Defence Minister A K Antony would be invited to dedicate the Bailey bridge to the pilgrims immediately after the completion of the work. The Minister also said that the Devaswom authorities had been asked to complete the work on the queue complexes near Sabaripeedom and Saramkuthi before November 1.He said that only 40 per cent renovation work on the Swami Ayyappan Road was completed so far and asked the Devaswom authorities to initiate measures so that the road would be made motorable soon. The TDB authorities have also been asked by the Minister to rubberise the Chalakayam-Pampa road .He also said that the recarpeting work of the road should be completed before November 1. Sivakumar said that the proposed parking area near Palliyara Kavu Devi temple near Nilackal Mahadeva temple should be levelled by using modern road rollers to prevent slushing on the surface during rainy days.Devaswom commissioner N Vasu, Sabarimala Devaswom executive officer M Satheesh Kumar and executive engineer Jolly Ullas were also present when the Minister visited Sannidhanam.
