KOZHIKODE: The violence and terror unleashed against the CPM cadre in West Bengal by the Trinamool Congress (TMC)- led alliance is an infringement on democracy, CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan has said. He was inaugurating the public meeting organised as part of the countrywide campaign in solidarity with the Left Front in West Bengal and against the politics of terror launched by TMC and the Maoist gangs, in Kozhikode on Sunday.Strongly condemning the attacks against the party workers and supporters in West Bengal, Pinarayi Vijayan said that by resorting to brutality, the Congress and Mamata Banerjee were trying to weaken the party’s base in West Bengal. “About 53 CPM activists were killed. Party offices and houses of comrades were vandalised and burnt by activists of Trinamool Congress. As many as 12,500 people have lost their homes. Over 40,000 people have become refugees. Around 1,000 party offices were destroyed completely. All these are part of a strategy to destroy the CPM,” he alleged. The Left Front has the power to overcome difficulties and it will re-emerge in West Bengal, Pinarayi Vijayan said. “It’s only a futile ambition of the Congress and Mamata that the Left Front can be destroyed in West Bengal. The CPM, especially the party cadre in Bengal, has a special ability to re-emerge,” he added. The CPM leader exhorted that all the progressive democratic organisations should unite to fight against terror-based politics.
