New Delhi: An air ambulance coming to Delhi from Patna with a heart patient and six other people on board crash landed in a field in Najafgarh area of Delhi on Tuesday afternoon. The incident took place at around 2.45 pm in Jaffarpur Kalan (Kair) village of Najafgarh, which is located in the southwestern part of Delhi.
Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) sources said that two people on board the plane have received injuries. The pilot had reported that both engines of the plane had failed just before the crash.
Those on board have been identified as: Dr Rupesh, Jung Bahadur, Devender Rai (patient), Juhi, Bhagwan Rai, Commander Amit and Co-pilot Rohit.
The air ambulance, belonging to Alchemist Airways, had taken off from Patna at 11:43 am and crashed two hours later in a village field. The crash took place just minutes before the plane was to land at the Indira Gandhi International Airport which is six nautical miles from the accident site.
Soon after the incident the villagers rushed to the spot. They informed the police and fire fighters who reached the crash site and began the rescue operation.
Rajendra Singh, Director Patna Airport, said, "I had a word with the Delhi ATC and they told me that both the engines of the aircraft stopped working minutes before it was supposed to land at IGI Airport."
All the injured have been admitted to a private hospital.
Meanwhile, the Civil Aviation Ministry has also ordered an enquiry into the matter.
