Plot to kill former J&K CM thwarted
Police have arrested a PDP councillor and his associate for attempting to assassinate former chief minister Mufti M Sayeed.

Jammu and Kashmir: The Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested a PDP councillor and his associate on Sunday for attempting to assassinate former chief minister Mufti M Sayeed.

The Srinagar SSP says Abdul Wahid Dhar, a municipal councillor from Zakura and a Lashkar-e-Toiba militant from Pakistan had done a recce of the Bakshi Stadium where Mufti was supposed to hoist the national flag on January 26.

Dhar had prepared a sketch of the stadium for Pakistani militants. The SSP also said that the two planned to ferry militants and arms to carry out strikes in the Valley. The J&K Police are carrying out raids to arrest three more suspected militants.

Meanwhile, security forces arrested three more suspected militants from the house of one Mohammad Yousuf Sheikh at village Amlar in Tral area of Pulwama district on Saturday night.

Five kg of RDX, 26 grenades and some electronic circuits were recovered from the militants.

During another operation security forces recovered a wireless set, an under-barrel grenade launcher, 300 AK rounds and two AK magazines from a

stream at village Rahmoo in Rajpora area of Pulwama district on Sunday.
