The PM was personally monitoring developments during the Mumbai siege.

New Delhi: In the aftermath of the Mumbai terror attacks, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh held a meeting with the chiefs of the defence services and intelligence agencies on Saturday to discuss ways to prevent such recurrences and review the security situation in the country.

Manmohan Singh who was personally monitoring developments right through the siege in Mumbai was keen to find out the measures being undertaken for strengthening coastal security arrangements.

Defence Secretary Vijay Singh, Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta, Army Chief General Deepak Kapoor, Naval Chief Admiral Sureesh Mehta, Air Force Chief Air Marshal Homi Major, Coast Guard Director General Admiral R.F. Contractor and Intelligence Bureau chief P C Haldar were present at the meeting.

The security establishment has been taken aback by the meticulous planning that went into the most daring non-military attack so far seen in this country that lasted nearly 60 hours and killed 162 people.

Before this meeting, Home Minister Shivraj Patil also held a meeting with top officials of various security forces and agencies in which it was decided to step up security measures along the coastline.

The Prime Minister has also called for an all-party meeting at his residence on Sunday to take stock after the terror attack on Mumbai and discuss follow up measures.
