Mumbai: To prepare the police force deal with terror attacks, commando training has now been made compulsory for all personnel in the police training school, a senior police official said today.
“Following the November 26 terror strikes, we have had about 6,000 to 7,000 new recruits. All of them have been given commando training,” Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) P P Srivastava said.
“At the police training school, there is a commando training now and it is a three-month compulsory course,” Srivastava said.
Training on a standard operating procedure to tackle terror strikes has also been given to personnel at police stations in every district, he said.
The Mumbai police would also be acquiring new weapons of the latest technology, a senior police official said.
Authorities have also formulated a new weapon use policy that will allow officials to carry specific types of weapons, Srivastava said.
“We have received an in-principle approval from the state government," Srivastava added.
After the November 26 attacks, police personnel involved in coastal security had also begun training with the Indian Navy, an official said.
“So far three batteries have started training," the official said.
There are 54 landing points in the city being manned by police to ensure coastal security, Srivastava said.
Personnel from the city police force are being prepared to tackle terror strikes in the future and training for members of the elite squad, Force One, has already begun in Pune, he said.
Intelligence collection was also an important aspect of the security and measures are being taken in addition to regular co-ordination with other intelligence agencies, Srivastava said.
