SANKARANKOIL: Leader of the Opposition and DMDK leader Vijayakant launched his campaign in Sankarankoil constituency by squarely blaming the DMK and its succesor AIADMK government for the state’s power crisis.Vijayakant said he had demanded setting up of new power projects during his address in the State Assembly in 2008. The then DMK government or the current AIADMK goverment has not initiated any new power project, he charged.Earlier, Vijayakant and wife Premalatha kicked off the party campaign in the constituency after offering prayers at the Sankaranarayanaswamy temple. The couple lashed out at the AIADMK government on various other fronts, including milk price hike and bus fare revision. After addressing the gathering jointly for few minutes, they toured the constituency separately. The government’s claim that they have asked for 1,000 MW from the Central government is nothing but a drama, he charged. “More than supplying generators in schools, it should ensure proper electricity supply to help children prepare for the exams,” he said.Only if the AIADMK is defeated in the election, the price of essential commodities and gold will come down, he claimed. Premalatha alleged that the state government is planning to commission the Koodankulam plant after the by-poll.
