BHUBANESWAR: World Trade Centre Association on Thursday proposed to establish a centre in the city for promotion of international trade and investment in the State. The proposal was given to the Government by Jayant Ghate, advisor, World Trade Centre (WTC) at a high-level meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Bijay Kumar Patnaik at the Secretariat.  WTC aims at improving infrastructure and services to promote and develop international trade in the State. Odisha has a rich legacy of international trade in the form of maritime activities. Currently, WTC has 323 centres in 95 countries across the globe. It has nearly a million business associates who contribute to more than one third of the world trade. The World Trade Centre Association formed in 1968 has been making a sincere endeavour to boost international trade in different countries. Presently, one such centre is operating in Mumbai since 1970 as a non-profit making organisation. WTC provides services in the field of trade information, trade education, research, exhibition facilities, meeting and conventions, shopping arcades, temporary residential facilities, import and export activities. A team led by Ghate has proposed to submit a detailed project report in two to three months. The Chief Secretary advised IDCO CMD Priyabrata Patnaik and Principal Secretary, Industries, T Ramchandru to examine the proposal.
