New Delhi: Lawyers and activists different political parties on Wednesday staged massive protests across major cities in Pakistan against suspension of the Supreme Court Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.

They also demanded the resignation of President Pervez Musharraf.

The protests over Chaudhry's suspension continued for the 11th day on Wednesday despite announcements by the government that the trial against him had been put off till April 3.

Several leaders, especially those belonging to the Muttahida Majlis-e Amal (MMA), took part in the protest rally in front of the Parliament building in Islamabad.

Police and paramilitary troops were deployed in large numbers in and around Parliament and Supreme Court buildings to prevent any unfavourable incidents.

The government has also issued prohibitory orders against gatherings.

While lawyers boycotted courts throughout the country for 11th day in succession to protest the suspension of Chaudhry on March 9 by Musharraf on charges of misconduct and misuse of power, demonstrations were held in support of Chaudhry in different cities.
