Puducherry to join TN on Cauvery dispute

The Chief Minister N Rangasamy told the territory assembly on Monday that the UT administration would join hands with Tamil Nadu government over the Cauvery water issue. The UT administration was seeking the river water for cultivation in the Karaikal region UT lying at the tail end of the Cauvery delta.

Replying to AIADMK’s A Anbazhagan during the zero hour on Monday, Rangasamy said that Karaikal farmers should get river water for cultivation. Welcoming Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa’s letter to the Prime Minister, Rangasamy said that he also would write to the PM in this regard.

Karnataka government was not ensuring the flow in the Cauvery as per the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal’s final order in April, 2007 as a result of which, the water level in Mettur dam had fallen considerably low.

Since Karaikal region was in need of Cauvery water, the UT administration should also join the action taken by the TN government, Anbazhagan said.
