Sleuths seize several incriminating materials; inspector on bail in Angammal Colony land case.

DVAC sleuths carried out simultaneous raids in the houses of Inspector Lakshmanan, a co-accused in many land grab cases against former minister for agriculture Veerapandi S Arumugam, and his relatives.

According to DVAC Deputy Superintendent of Police P Chandramouli the raid was carried out after a case related to accumulation of wealth disproportionate to his known income was registered against the police officer on Friday.

While one team raided Lakshmanan’s house at Sooramangalam, other teams checked the house of his father-in-law Kesavan at S N Palayam in Omalur, the residence of his father Somaya Gounder at Anaipalayam in Rasipuram Taluk, and house of his sister Saroja at Mulai Nagar, Salem.

Inspector Lakshmanan became close to Veerapandi Arumugam during the DMK regime when he was posted at Pallapatti and Kondalampatti police stations.

He is a co-accused in the Angammal Colony, Dasanickenpatti, Premier Mills and Coimbatore Jewellers land cases.

He was arrested in the Angammal Colony case and was suspended.Later he came with bail.

 Sleuths seized several incriminating materials during the search that went for several hours.

Chandramouli said the raiding teams seized debenture certificates, bonds and documents of other investments on financial instruments. Land and building property documents, bank account details and documents of vehicles purchased were also taken.

The value of the assets and investments was not yet assessed and once it was done, his income would be compared to frame charges of illegal accumulation, said Chandramouli. At Namakkal documents like bank account books, PAN cards and others were seized in the raid which lasted till evening, an official said.
