BANGALORE: In the monthly BBMP meeting on Tuesday, the council finally took a decisive step on illegal Optic Fibre Cable (OFC) laying companies and increased the rates for digging on the streets of the city for OFC companies.
Illegal OFC has become a much debated issue in the last few weeks since the launch of an intensive campaign to remove illegal OFCs, because of which the Mahanagara Palike has been losing crores of rupees. The Palike has now announced that each meter of OFC being laid by the company in Bangalore will be charged Rs 120 per month from the earlier Rs 40.

"The companies make huge profit after laying these cables and give only a meagre amount to the BBMP. This was a long standing issue which has been resolved," said Corporator from Yediyur, N R Ramesh.

"We are expecting the desilting of the SWD by Julyend and will be ready to tackle the monsoon related issued for the season," he said.

The RWH system implementation is also underway, the BBMC commissioner added.
