Madrid: Real Madrid star Raul has his heart set on making the Champions League last 16 return on March 8 against Arsenal, nearly four months after rupturing a meniscus and suffering a partial knee ligament rupture against Barcelona on November 19, Spanish media said on Wednesday.
Last week Raul, Spain's national skipper who is also desperate to get back to top fitness for the World Cup, said a return in early March could be feasible.
After 73 days on the sidelines Raul trained on Tuesday for 50 minutes and Real said on their website that he had entered "the final recuperation phase," with his knee appearing to have stood up to the strain.
The February 21 first leg against the Gunners looks to be too early for the all time Champions League top scorer but As and Marca sports dailies said the 92-cap striker was set to make the teamsheet for the return.
Medical experts had initially warned that Spain's all-time record scorer with 42 goals could miss six months' action and even the World Cup.
