Rehabilitation: Temporary sheds almost ready

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The temporary sheds being constructed by TRIDA for the rehabilitation of the traders on the Power House Road are nearing completion. The sheds will be handed over to the traders within a month, said TRIDA officials. The sheds are being constructed on the Central Theatre Road, which has been partially blocked for the work. Around 45 traders on Power House Road will be rehabilitated to the shops on Central Theatre Road.“The work of the sheds is over. The electrical works remain. The Electrical wing of the PWD is responsible for the work. The sheds could be handed over to the traders in this month,” said Ajithkumar, chief engineer, TRIDA.The traders had to be relocated as part of the construction of the Thakaraparambu flyover, connecting Thakaraparambu and Power House. The construction of the flyover is part of the City Road Improvement Project (CRIP). The construction of the flyover had lagged for years over the issue of rehabilitation of traders. The site planned for the rehabilitation was later occupied by a retail giant. Later, TRIDA proposed the site at the Govt Central School, Attakulangara, for the permanent rehabilitation of the traders. Traders will be rehabilitated temporarily on the Central Theatre Road till the construction of the bus stand-cum-shopping complex gets completed on the school compound at Attakulangara.
