New Delhi: Making a complete mockery of the law and order situation in Ghaziabad, the relatives of a 22-year-old arrested for sexual harassment barged into the Tronica City police station on Monday night and freed him.
The relatives decided to storm the police station after the cops on duty did not allow them to serve fish and liquor to the accused.
Rahul, a resident of Khyala in Delhi, was put behind bars for allegedly harassing a woman.
Over a dozen of his relatives — that included Rahul’s brother Suraj, father Ranveer and some women — launched a volley of blows on a constable, beat him with rods and sticks, broke furniture, ransacked the police station and fled. The accused Rahul has since been untraceable.
“The relatives of the accused had brought fish and liquor and insisted on giving it to him inside the police station. When I refused, they began damaging the office property and beat me up with rods,” constable Devi Pal was quoted as saying by Times of India.
Seven people have been arrested for the ruckus.
