Hundreds from all walks of life flocked to Don Bosco, Vennala, to pay tributes to the relic of St John Bosco- popularly known as Don Bosco. The relic was kept at churches and institutions run by the Salesian Society. The relic commenced its 130-country pilgrimage from Valdocco in Italy on January 31, 2009, the day when the Salesian Society or Salesians of Don Bosco celebrated its 150th year of anniversary. The journey was undertaken in connection with the 200th birth anniversary of St John Bosco who is hailed as the father and mediator of the youth. The relic reached Kerala in Kasargod and started the pilgrimage from September 23. The faithful waited patiently in a queue to pay their respects to the relic kept inside a glass casket. “Before coming to India, the relic had been touring America and Europe. It had already been to other states of India, except Tamil Nadu which will covered soon. From there, it will cross to Sri Lanka and then to the African countries,” said the administrator of Don Bosco, Vennala, where the relic of the saint has been kept. Prayers was conducted all night and there will be a sent-off prayer on Tuesday at 5.30 a.m. after which the relic will be taken to another church in Chembumukku.
