Retired at 37? IAF goes mean and lean
The Indian Air Force wants to retire its officers after 14 years of service and turn into a leaner and meaner fighting force.

New Delhi: The Indian Air Force wants 50 per cent of its officers to retire after just 14 years of service and a Cabinet approval for the proposal is expected soon. This means that an Junior Commissioned Officer, who joins the IAF after his comppleting his M.A. at 23 could retire at the grand old age of 37!

The government has already agreed to revive (THE) short-service commission for male officers to facilitate the IAF's objective.

This move is aimed at having a leaner cadre of permanent commission officers who will serve for longer durations and will mean less superseding at senior levels.

The IAF also wants to increase its pilot strength through short-service commissions.
