New Delhi: In a latest development in the Rizwanur death case, a seven-member CBI team on Saturday visited Patipukur area, the place where the body of Rizwanur was found.
Rizwanur died under mysterious circumstances following his marriage to the daughter of an industrialist Ashok Todi.
The CBI team is led by Joint Director, Special Crime Cell, Arun Kumar, inspected the site for collecting evidence. Earlier, the team held a meeting at the CBI office located inside the central government office complex at Salt Lake.
“The team is likely to question Rizwanur’s father-in-law, industrialist Ashok Todi today,” PTI quoted CBI sources as saying.
The CBI, which has been entrusted by Calcutta High Court to probe the death of Rizwanur, has registered a murder case against Ashok Todi.
On Friday after hearing CBI’s intervention in the investigation of the death case, the brother of Rizwanur and a noted Human Rights activist welcomed the move.
"We have been pressing for a long time that Rizwanur has been murdered and we believe that no state agency can work transparently in these circumstances. The registering of the case by the CBI only consolidates our suspicion," Rukbanur told PTI.
Human Rights activist Sujato Bhadra, who had been maintaining all along that Rizwanur had been murdered, said that all have to cooperate with the CBI to enable it to complete the investigation successfully.
Meanwhile, in a political development surrounding Rizwanur’s death case, veteran CPI-M leader Jyoti Basu said that the delay in shifting the police officers allegedly involved in the death of Rizwanur, had caused political loss to the party.
"This has caused political loss for the party. The step to transfer the police officers should have been taken earlier by the West Bengal government than when it finally did," PTI quoted Basu as saying.
