HYDERABAD: The new road divider being constructed in front of the Star Hospitals in Banjara Hills is posing much inconvenience to those going to the hospital. The divider which begins from Talwalker’s stretches up to Ofen Bakery, making anyone going to the hospital from Banjara Hills to travel half a kilometre to take a U-turn to Star Hospitals. A ambulance driver of the Star Hospitals, “In case of critical heart trouble, a patient has to be taken to the hospital immediately. With unruly traffic in the city, bringing the patient on time is a challenge. The road divider will now add to the trouble as it will take at least five minutes more to go till the end of the road and take a turn. The ambulance can get stuck in traffic right in front of the hospital on the other side.”Star Hospital’s operations’ manager Shravanthi agrees the new divider is making things cumbersome. “But the decision has been taken by the government. What can we do?” she asks. On being questioned whether the hospital has decided to put up with the inconvenience or will give a representation to the government, she did not want to comment. GHMC executive engineer Mohan said the corporation had taken up the construction based on recommendation of the traffic police. Additional commissioner of police (traffic) CV Anand said they were compelled to set up a divider as there was heavy congestion on the road. “There are two hospitals on the road, Rainbow and Star hospitals. Apart from that, every house in the lane is turned into a commercial establishment and people have been using the entire road to park their vehicles,” he added. Anand said more such dividers would come up at other places to solve traffic woes.
