While most of the regular drivers opted out of the Young Driver Test, Romain Grosjean says he would have relished a run. Formula One was in action at Silverstone this past week with mainly young drivers putting in three days of the British track during which the revised Pirelli tyres were run.
The teams were allowed to run their regular race drivers for one day, but Lotus opted not to. According to a report in a formula one website, PLANETF1.com, Grosjean said: "As a driver, you always want to be in the car getting as much experience as possible; especially when there's something new like different tyres."
"The tyres we used at the Neurburgring suited us pretty well, so let's hope the latest version will also suit us at the Hungaroring." Grosjean heads to the Hungaroring determined to secure another Budapest podium and carry on the form that put him in the top three last time out in Germany.
"It's always great to stand on the podium. I can remember feeling frustrated last year in Budapest as we did have a chance to be fighting for the win before we got held up by a driver who didn't respect the blue flags, but that's certainly a better frustration than missing out on the podium or even worse. Taking third in Germany was great so I certainly have a positive feeling heading to Hungary.
Formula One championship leader Sebastian Vettel set the fastest time on the final day of a special in-season testing session with new tires. The triple world champion completed 78 laps in his Red Bull at Silverstone on Friday.
Vettel topped the timesheets by clocking 1 minute 32.894 seconds. Adrian Sutil set the pace in the morning but ended up second-fastest, around three-tenths of a second slower than Vettel.
