CHENNAI: Here is an incident that is bound to strengthen people’s faith in the Railway Protection Force. A panic-stricken woman recently barged into the Railway Protection Force (RPF) station at the Mambalam Railway Station a little past 6 am. It wasn’t unusual for people to drop by at the RPF station but the timing baffled the personnel. Morever, the woman looked to be in some sort of shock, the personnel present there said. She had lost her handbag, which had her daughter’s original certificates from college and her identity card. “Please help us,” the lady pleaded with the men in khakhi.” The woman, identified as K Shanthi from Annamalaipuram in Chidambaram, Cuddalore district, who came to Chennai by Mannai Express, realised that she had left behind her handbag containing the documents as soon as she alighted from the compartment. However, the train had departed from the Mambalam station by then. Luckily, for her, it ended on a happy note with the lost property being recovered in a matter of just 15 minutes. Acting swiftly on the directions of S R Gandhi, Senior Divisional Security Commissioner, Chennai Division, and under the supervision of Mambalam RPF Sub Inspector S Maharajan, RPF Mambalam Assistant Sub Inspector Mohan alerted the officers at Egmore, even as the Mannai Express approached the Egmore railway station fast. As the train pulled into the station at 6.15 am, the officers entered coach S4, where Shanthi was travelling, and recovered the handbag from seat number 10. Thanking the RPF for their quick response, Shanthi left for Egmore to collect her articles by 6.30 am.
