Rukraksh trees are to be planted in a big way this monsoon in Vrindavan, the land of Lord Krishna.

Jagan Nath Poddar, convener of Friends of Vrindavan, an NGO, said, "A massive plantation of rudraksh can end depression, stress, unrest and other problems the society is facing today."

Mahamandeleshwar Swami Martandya Puriji Maharaj said at a function organised by Friends of Vrindavan that he had helped people in many cities and villages to plant rudraksh trees.

"It is a myth that it can grow only on the hills," Swamiji said.

Rudraksh is a large broad-leaved tree whose seed is traditionally used as prayer beads in Hinduism. It is also known as blueberry beads.
