TRIPUNITHURA: The unique Sanskrit scholars’ meet, the Saasthra Sadassu, began on  Monday at Government Sanskrit College here. The meet, which was established by the kings of Kochi, is famous for updating the knowledge in Sanskrit, by the scholars from across India.  Many improvisations and new concepts in handling Sanskrit language will be presented as papers by renowned scholars.Saasthra Sadassu, during the reign of Maharaja Pareekshith Thampuran of Kochi State, was famous for the presence of eminent Sanskrit scholars of that time. It was in the first-half of the 20th century when the kings of Kochi started this meet to enable the communication between these scholars.  Saasthra Sadassu will be inaugurated on December 27 by Municipal chairman R Venugopal.  K G Paulose, former vice-chancellor will preside over the function. Prof R Vasudevan Potty, Prof K Venkitaraja Sarma and K T Madhavan will deliver the felicitation address. At the meet many innovative versions on Sanskrit language will be put forward by renowned scholars like K S Meenambal, O Vatsala, M Krishnakumar and Brahmamangalam Madhavan. In the evening, cultural programmes including Ashoka Vanikaangam by eminent artistes, will be staged. The Sadassu will conclude on December 29.
