New Delhi: Sania Mirza's decline in the WTA rankings continues. Now she has slipped 21 places to fall down to No. 91 in the latest charts issued on Monday.
Sania, who had to pull out of the US Open because of injury, now faces the real prospect of dropping outside the top 100 for first time since 2004.
She has been forced to miss entire clay court season including the French Open and then left her singles Olympics campaign mid-way due to the niggling wrist injury. She also lost seven positions in her doubles ranking, dropping to 44 with 949 points.
She had undergone wrist surgery in April and is expected to start light training soon but it remains unclear when she would be able to return to action.
Meanwhile, Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi stuck to their 16th and 12th positions respectively in ATP men's doubles rankings. Paes is likely to move up the ladder after finishing runners-up along with partner Lukas Dlouhy in US Open.
