THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The pilot project to complete the resurvey of Sasthamangalam village in a time-bound manner is progressing in full swing. The resurvey works began on October 5. As part of the pilot project, two villages in each district would be considered for the resurvey. Sasthamangalam and Varkala villages have been chosen from Thiruvananthapuram district. Unlike other resurveys, this project has to be completed in a time-bound manner. The entire project must be completed by February 5, 2012. “Usually, the officials will be redeployed for some other work in between the survey works. Thus, there arises indefinite delay in the submission of reports. This time, strict direction has been given not to redeploy the officials,” one of the officials said. As many as 46 officials are working for the Sasthamangalam resurvey project. The project is implemented with the support of residents’ associations, councillors and other organisations. “Getting documents from people is the biggest hurdle. This is achieved with the support of residents’ associations. We give intimations one month in advance, so that the land owners would get enough time to respond,” he said. Sometimes, the survey officials have to visit a house 5 to 6 times to get the required documents,” he added. The pilot project is being implemented at all districts except Idukki. In Thiruvananthapuram, resurvey works are in full swing at Sasthamangalam and Varkala villages. The officials will first conduct the resurvey of government or ‘puramboke’ lands. The officials are planning to meet the land owners and check the documents. They would also take steps to settle disputes. The officials have asked the land owners to mark the boundaries and hand over the required documents to them. The land owners can approach the resurvey camp office at the office of Mapping Assistant Director at Ambalamukku.
