There seems to be no end to the controversy over the statement of Bollywood actor Aamir Khan on the issue of intolerance. A sedition case has been filed against the actor in Kanpur.
It has been alleged in the court complaint that the actor tried to divide the country with his statement on intolerance at the Ramnath Goenka Awards for Journalism on Monday.
The complaint has been filed in a Kanpur court by a local lawyer. The court is slated to hear the matter on December 1.
This comes a day after a complaint was filed against the actor at a police station in the national capital.
Meanwhile, the government has said that the statement by the actor has hurt the sentiments of the people of the country. Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu said, "Unfortunately, knowingly or unknowingly he has hurt India, we are pained by his remarks."
The issue has sparked a war of words between the government and the Congress-led opposition parties. While the government and the BJP have claimed that the actor's statement hurt sentiments of people of India, the Congress said that instead of branding those opposing Prime Minister Narendra Modi as unpatriotic, the government must reach out to people.
