BANGALORE: It is said that Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has to pay dues running into several crores to the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB). This news might baffle the civic agency as there are repeated complaints raised by the corporators against the Board.
Minister for Urban Development and BWSSB, S Suresh Kumar had written a letter to BBMP commissioner Siddaiah on May 30 asking the Palike to pay up dues it owes to BWSSB and to deposit amount to take up works in other parts of the city. The details in the letter throws light on issues like payment of arrears for water supplied through public taps up to January 2004 amounting to Rs 148.75 crore. Palike also has to pay Rs 180 crore along with an additional Rs 100 crore for every year from August 2010 onwards as funds for maintaining water supply system in seven City Municipal Council areas and one Town Municipal Corporation area of Bangalore from June 2008 to July 2010.
