New Delhi: Taj Mahal represents eternal love, inspires many a poet’s imagination and has been immortalised in cinema as well.
But all these might not really boost the white-marble architectural wonder’s chances of making it to the Seven Wonders of the World. What can help are some mouse-clicks and a lot of good wishes.
The odds - going by an international online poll to choose the Seven Wonders of the World - aren’t exactly tilted in India’s favour.
The campaign initiated in September 1999 by New7Wonders website to choose the Seven Wonders of the World, is nearing culmination and the top 21 finalists have been shortlisted out of the initial 77 contestants.
The website comes up with periodic ratings based on the polls cast by those registered with it, and if the June ratings are anything to go by, Taj Mahal needs quite a bit of backing and mouse-clicks.
Taj ranks a lowly number 20 on the popularity charts below the Statue of Liberty (US) and Sydney’s Opera House (Australia).
This international campaign is in its final stage throughout 2006 and the results of the poll would be made public in a grand, global live telecast on July 7, 2007 – 07.07.07 – an interestingly apt date for the Official Declaration.
Here is your chance to root for India and get Taj on top. Register now and vote for Taj Mahal at www.new7wonders.com.
Have your say: Can Taj Mahal be one of the Seven Wonders of the World?
