CHENNAI: Veteran Left leader and freedom fighter N Shankaraiah on Wednesday exuded confidence that the DMDK-CPM alliance would be able to win considerable number of seats in the civic polls. The 90-year-old, who is the CPM Central Committee’s Control Commission chairman, voted at Government Boys Higher Secondary School in New Colony in Chrompet during the second phase of the civic polls.Speaking to reporters, he recalled that DMDK-CPM alliance came into existence after the parties were sent out of the AIADMK alliance.As the cadre of both the parties are working in conjunction, the CPM could secure a considerable number of seats, he said. He said the elected representatives should work for the people’s betterment.He also suggested that senior citizens and differently-abled persons should be allowed to travel up to the booth in their vehicles.
