Mumbai: A youth, aspiring to make it big in Bollywood, attempted suicide outside the office of filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt in suburban Andheri on Friday afternoon.
Biswajeet Ratan Mitra (22) had been visiting Bhatt's office for the past one and half years and requesting the filmmaker to give him a break in Bollywood.
Mitra, who hails from West Bengal, poured kerosene on himself and was about to set himself on fire, when policemen on duty overpowered him, police said.
Additional Police Commissioner (Western region), Bipin Bihari, said that Biswajeet had moved to Mumbai almost two years ago and was staying at Sewri in east-central Mumbai.
"The filmmaker perhaps never said yes to Biswajeet but at the same time also did not ask Biswajeet to stop visiting him and that perhaps emboldened the boy who kept on making rounds of Bhatt's office," Bihari said.
Sources said Biswajeet was perhaps prepared to end his life when he visited Bhatt's office on Friday afternoon.
He was not allowed to meet Bhatt by the office staff, after which he attempted suicide, the sources added.
Biswajeet has been booked for attempt to suicide and will be produced before a court on Saturday, sources said.
