CHENNAI: Strongly hitting out at the BJP for stalling the functioning of Parliament to press its demand for resignation of Union Home Minister P Chidambaram for his alleged role in the 2G spectrum pricing, the Congress on Tuesday said it was utterly irresponsible and showed their mulish obstinacy.Speaking to reporters at Satyamurthi Bhavan, Congress spokesperson, Abhishek Manu Singhvi slammed the BJP for what he called the Saffron party’s witch hunt. “The Congress party deprecates, condemns in the strongest possible words the utterly irresponsible behaviour of the BJP-led opposition in disrupting Parliament yet again from day one,”Criticising BJP’s decision to boycott Chidambaram in Parliament, Singhvi wondered if the main opposition party could afford to say that they would not allow Parliament to function unless the government resigned as it disagreed with it.“The Supreme Court has reserved judgement on the issue of initiating action against that minister. Is it fair to say that we would not allow Parliament to run even without waiting for the verdict? How can they (Centre) act even before the judgement?” he asked adding the BJP was indulging in cheap politics.“The BJP believes in destructive disruption. It is mulish obstinacy. Each time the excuse may vary but the intention and the result is the same,” he added. On the Congress boycotting former defence minister George Fernandes during the NDA regime, Singhvi said the BJP was suffering from ‘selective amnesia’.‘KKNP Charges legitimate’On the Koodankulam agitations, Singhvi said continuation of the stir does not “make sense” against the backdrop of Centre’s assurances on safety. Nuclear energy is important and an imperative for the nation, he stressed.Asked on Union Minister Narayanasamy’s charge on the funding of the stir, he said: “The question appears to be legitimate.”
