New Delhi: Football legend George Best died in a London hospital after multiple organ failure and internal bleeding on Friday.
The ex- Northrn Ireland player was fighting for his life but doctors had confirmed on Thursday that his condition had detoriated upto a point of no return.
Best had a history of alcohol problems and was admitted to hospital on 1st October with a lung infection.
His well wishers gathered outside the hospital and paid him glowing tributes.
"I know of course that he was such a fantastic footballer. I think everyone at Manchester United all look upon George as one of the greatest footballers of all time and I think that's the way we ought to remember him too," said Manchester United manager, Alex Ferguson.
He added that the 59 year old soccer great will be regarded as one of the greatest footballers ever and even Pele had once said that Best was the best footballer he had seen.
The former Manchester United winger was voted European player of the year in 1968.
But an overdose of alcohol, gambling and a fast life saw him self destruct.
