Student organisations obstruct PG counselling

TIRUPATI: Tension prevailed for some time at Srinvasa auditorium on Sri Venkateswara University campus here on Monday, when leaders of various student organisations interrupted the counselling and admission process for those selected in SVURPGCET-2011, demanding uniform fees.The process was interrupted between 12:30 noon to 4:30 pm. As of now, there is a variation in the fees among the university affiliated colleges. The parents of the students, who were present for the counselling, supported the protest.Police, who arrived at the scene after being alerted by the university, tried to remove the protestors.The students demanded the vice-chancellor to come up with a decision in their favour, in this regard. The VC, however, did not interact with the students. Additional police forces were called in. Five student union leaders were arrested and the remaining agitators were forced to disperse. The counselling resumed in the evening.
