THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Suchitwa Mission will organise an exhibition-cum-workshop on indigenous technologies in waste management on November 29 and 30 at the Kanakakkunnu Palace here. The exhibition-cum-workshop will be inaugurated by Panchayat and Social Welfare Minister M K Muneer. Mayor K Chandrika will preside over the function. Dr George Chackacherry will welcome the gathering. Local Self-Government principal secretary James Varghese will deliver the keynote address. Chamber of Municipal Chairmen chairman Jamal Manakkadan and Local Self-Government secretary R K Singh will offer felicitations. Suchitwa Mission director M Dileep Kumar will propose the vote of thanks. Around 100 agencies from the state and outside will exhibit waste-disposal models at the exhibition. Paper presentations will also be held. The exhibition to be held on the Sooryakanthi ground is open to the public on November 29 and 30. Various composting mechanisms and biogas plants ideal for houses, flats and other institutions will be exhibited. Plastic waste disposal models will also be displayed. The programme intends to encourage local technologies in waste disposal and to find the ideal model for the state, said the executive director of Suchitwa Mission. The valedictory function will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on November 30 at 12.30 pm. The Chief Minister will also distribute the Nirmal Gram Puraskar at the function.
