New Delhi: According to the Mexican Health Ministry, the death toll in the country due to the H1N1 virus Influenza A is continuing to rise. The death toll rose from eight to 56 on Tuesday.
The country, which was the epicentre of the pandemic, now has 2,003 confirmed cases of Swine flu deaths. With 2,059 cases, Mexico now has 2.7 per cent of all the cases in the world.
However, officials say the Swine flu cases are now seeing a progressive drop.
On Tuesday, Mexico re-opened most primary schools after a massive shutdown to contain the Swine flu outbreak, but six of 32 states were to keep schools closed due to further flu fears.
Meanwhile, Canada has gained the dubious distinction of being the third country to report a death from the H1N1 virus, following Mexico and the US.
The US Navy says the number of American sailors with Swine flu has jumped to 18, with 11 cases being confirmed on the warfare ship USS Dubuque. Three swine flu cases have also been reported from Japan.
In Australia, a woman tested positive for the disease after she returned from a trip to the US.
According to the World Health Organisation, 29 countries have reported cases of H1N1 Influenza-A taking the total number of infected to 4379 across the globe total deaths worldwide to 50.
